Tower Bridge Birthday Celebration

City of London: Tower Bridge | Sir Horace’s 200th birthday celebration | June 2019

As part of youth outreach, the Tower Bridge committee wanted to do something special to celebrate the 200th birthday of Sir Horace - architect of the Tower Bridge. I worked with an in-country consultant agency to develop the visuals needed for their team to print, install, and set-up the event.

I was asked to illustrate characters who would be at Sir Horace Jones’s birthday party, including himself, his daughter, a diver in old-fashioned diving gear, a dragon (from the City of London coat of arms), an engineer, Queen Victoria, Edward VII, and a baby Horace Jones (with a beard). Set on bright grounds in a festive palette, the illustrations popped inside the Tower Bridge.

The art was used in a variety of ways to transform Tower Bridge into a festive party scene including: a table cover for the crafting area, a pamphlet to learn the history of the Tower Bridge, banners and signage throughout the interior, stickers and more!

I designed a few scenes and some secondary icons to fill out the assortment of art. The scenes were turned into large print-outs and a photo-stand-in of Horace’s birthday gathering. The extra icons were used in a variety of ways, including dragon footprints placed along the floor to guide guests to the engine room - where the party was happening!
