Nick Jr. | Paw Patrol Alphabeat Animation | 2017
Learn to read the alphabet with the cast of the hit show Paw Patrol! Nick Jr. asked that I draw the characters from the show, design hand-lettered text for each word and illustrate backgrounds to use throughout the animation. Their animation team took my illustrations and brought them to life! The above video is the final result and below are details about the artwork.
This project required that I illustrate the main and secondary characters from the show Paw Patrol in my own style. I used simple shapes to build sweet but bold renderings while still maintaining each dog’s personality and proportions. Different poses, expressions, and pupil positions made them engaging and interactive throughout the video!
For the refrain of the song, the Nick Jr. team wanted the word “alpha-beat” illustrated in a few colorways with a monochromatic pattern in the background. The heads of the characters bounce along the words to the beat of the music and highlight the part being sung.
Each letter required a unique illustration with the hand-lettered text as the main component. Some words had more scenery, some featured ancillary characters, like Wally the walrus, and others were simpler with a more illustrative take on the text. Each scene was lightly animated by the Nick Jr. team to give slight movement throughout.
