Pirate Jack Gets Dressed
Written by Nancy Raines Day | Illustrated by Allison Black for Beach Lane Books | September 2018 | Hardcover
It’s the crack o’ dawn, and dapper Pirate Jack is ready t’ get dressed for a day out on the high seas. He’ll need every color of the rainbow to make his outfit complete—from his itchy gray long johns and his toasty pink socks to his bright red sash and his cozy purple coat. But just as he’s about to step outside, he realizes he’s still missing a color! Can you help him complete his colorful look?
I loved the bright colorful illustrations from the front cover, end paper rainbow colors, and all the pages in between. This is a wonderful “Talk Like A Pirate” day read aloud for preschoolers to grade 1 with jolly rhyming text throughout....Children will enjoy looking for the tiny pirate mouse on each page. (Julie Durmis, Youth Services Book Review October 2018)
The rhyming text is spunky and humorous, filled with familiar pirate lingo…illustrations use bright, saturated colors and an oversized landscape format with double-page spreads that provide lots of room for amusing details in Jack’s well-furnished stateroom aboard ship. Yer pirate-lovin’ tender-aged readers will give Pirate Jack a thumbs-up….” (Kirkus September 2018)
